New Year, New You?

Welcome back. Happy New Year. People typically like to take the opportunity to reevaluate some bad habits and try to correct them around this time of year. For our first post of the New Year lets share a few resolutions you are committing to making or discuss how it may have went for you in the past. Are you able to stay committed to a resolution you make with yourself? Or what would you like to change about yourself and how can you?

  1. One New Year’s resolution I am going to try to be committed to is eating healthier. As the days go by, I read about many people dying of cancer. I believe one of the main causes of cancer is not eating healthy. Some important people in my life have even died of cancer. Hearing about all of these deaths in the world motivated me to have a healthier diet. I do not want to get sick and possibly die because of unhealthy choices. I will no longer eat foods that contain unhealthy ingredients like red dye or high fructose corn syrup. These are the worst ingredients you can consume. They are the cause of many illnesses. A couple of weeks ago, I started to eat pasta or meat dishes with a side of vegetables. I also only eat foods that are made from organic ingredients. This is because other ingredients have chemicals in them to preserve them for a longer period of time. I think I will stay committed to this resolution. This is because it is beneficial for my well-being. Eating healthy could lower the risk of getting cancer.
Another New Year’s resolution would be being kinder to my sisters. This is one thing I would like to change about myself. My sisters are nothing but nice to me. Even though they may annoy me sometimes, I know they will always be there for me. I know they will have my back through thick and thin. I do not like the way I behave when they get on my nerves. I want to treat them with kindness and respect. They are my support system. I have to be a role model for them and show them how to properly act in certain situations. Overall, I think I will stay committed to this resolution. Even though they may bother me sometimes, I will try to handle the situation more rationally.

  2. One of my New Year's resolution is to work on time management. I tend to leave many things till the last minute. I know that this is wrong. By leaving things off till the last minute, I procrastinate and worry about everything. This is an issue I need to work on. I plan to work on my time management by starting to plan things out. I will try to set a limit as to how long I can relax before starting my homework after school. By doing so, I will hopefully not procrastinate as much and not leave things till the last minute.
Another New Year's resolution of mine is to talk to my grandmother more frequently. My grandmother lives in Mexico and I don't get to see her as often as I would like to due to school and schoolwork. My grandfather died a few months ago and I didn't get to talk and see him as frequently because he lived in Mexico with my grandmother. Ever since he passed, I promised myself that I would try to visit and talk to my grandmother as often as I could. I value every single moment I had with my grandfather and I value every single moment I have with my grandmother even more now.
